We are delighted to announce that we are beginning in-person and virtual programming at Octavia Lab!
Los Angeles Libros Festival
Hands-on Screen Printing
Saturday, September 24
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Join Self Help Graphics & Art's Barrio Mobile Art Studio (BMAS) in-person to learn basic printmaking from a handmade stencil. Print your design with the help of a professional artist and take your poster home, while supplies last. This event is open to all ages. Octavia Lab equipment demonstrations and other hands-on activities will take place throughout the day.

This special program is one of many at the Los Angeles Libros Festival at Central Library.

Web Development and Coding 101 for Middle and High Schoolers
Tuesdays, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11 & 10/18
4 to 5:15 p.m.
Tweens and teens 7th grade and up will receive an online introduction to website development and coding. During each session, participants use HTML and CSS, build webpages, and work on practical do-it-yourself projects and programming challenges using the creative coding platform Tynker.

Laser Cut Tarot Card Demonstration
Thursday, October 20
6 to 7:15 p.m.
Discover the fascinating history of tarot cards! Learn how to design and laser cut your own tarot cards, followed by a demonstration of how to design a custom tarot card for the laser cutter. Attendees will receive a free deck of tarot cards, while supplies last.

Registration is required to attend this in-person program. To participate, please email Lauren at lkratz@lapl.org.

Celebrate Latinx Heritage Month:
Make Papel Picado with the Laser Cutter
Reserve the laser cutter to design and cut your own papel picado or other creations for Latinx Heritage Month. Papel picado, punched or perforated paper, is beautiful traditional folk art that can be found throughout Los Angeles and Mexico. Lab members may visit and receive free laser cut papel picado, while supplies last.

Newly Installed Software
GIMP is an open source image editor. You can use this tool for digital painting, photo retouching, image composition and image format converting. GIMP is available on all the iMacs and PCs in Octavia Lab.

Masks are mandatory in all Los Angeles City facilities, including libraries.
