Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ Walking Foot Sewing Machine (110V)

  • The Sailrite is a portable, heavy-duty sewing machine that performs both straight and zigzag stitches.
  • It has the ability to sew thick and dense fabrics.

New Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machines 

A singer sewing machine
Coming in December, the Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machines #4423 will be replaced with the newer #4432 machines, which feature the same robustness and interface, with new sewing patterns and a working built-in needle threader.

A collection of zines

Saturday, November 23

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Zines are a DIY form of rapid publishing that are a great way to share your thoughts, poetry, drawings, comics, or more! In this class, you’ll learn how to fold and assemble several types of zines using various methods, including X-Fold, T-Cut, Snake, and Pamphlet Stitch zines. You will leave with instructions and templates to help you incorporate these techniques into your next zine projects! All supplies are provided.

Have you ever wanted to write a song? Are you a songwriter seeking new techniques and inspiration? Join us for this fun, collaborative workshop where you'll learn how to write lyrics through games and improvisation and how to compose backing music—even if you know nothing about music theory.
 
Workshop leader Nivi Canela believes everyone has the power to create meaningful art. They have empowered people to share their stories via creativity workshops in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Louisiana, and online. Their debut EP, Our Lady of Abundancia, was partially produced at the Octavia Lab.

2 pm - 5 pm

Young Angeleno game masters will lead an interactive role-playing adventure game around the quote, "The destiny of Earthseed is to take root among the stars," from the Parable of the Sower series with the intent "to co-create our understanding of the hope, creativity, and resilience that shaped Octavia's first book." This role-playing game will also tie Butler's work to the climate change we face today.

Chinese Paper Lanterns

2 pm - 4 pm

Participants will learn the ancient decorative art of making Chinese lanterns with presenter Emmy Lam. During this hands-on workshop, participants will make two lanterns.
 
This special program is one of many at the Lunar New Year Celebration at Central Library.
